Hi. I am most well known for my writing and translation done for My Time at Sandrock. After college I moved to China to learn Chinese, and in 2019, Pathea Games found me in a bar and asked me to start taking a look at their English scripts. The rest, as they say... is stuff that happened.

End Cutscene from My Time at Sandrock
This scene was the culmination of years of writing for the more than 50 characters for five years of Sandrock's development. In this video, I'm overlaying excerpts from my first draft of these scenes on top of what ended up being the final result, along with a little commentary from a streamer I like.

I started writing the monologue, and then came up with the idea of this "call and response" theme where all of the character arcs would be reflected in visually as Mayor Trudy talks about the town's journey as a whole.
What I find fun about revisiting this script in particular is that it is almost note for note what ended up being the final product, which is pretty rare for any early screenplay.

Getting to write this scene, everything that led to it, and seeing it all come to life and be enjoyed by so many people is one of my life's greatest achievements.

A few of my favorite scenes/scenarios

Just when our heroes think they're about to find a key piece of information, SURPRISE! Filler episode. Involving a weird blend of cliches that must be overcome in order to find a new clue that leads you to the real clue. Video games, am I right?

This scene I think showcases my ability to create a fun adventure, essentially out of thin air, with multiple characters and plotlines being threaded together, all throughout a cohesive action/comedy plot that plays out in a linear dungeon.

A telenovella level drama, a collaboration and celebration between myself and my lovely co-writers at Pathea that proves I can work on stories, even if I think they're icky and full of cooties. Or maybe I should say... work with other writers in genres I'm less at home with. Particularly proud of the ending monologue scene.

For the finale of Sandrock, I wrote small speeches for 40? 50? different characters, and I think this is one of the better examples of my ability to balance all these voices and make each character sound unique.

Mort Recieves a Letter on the Wind...

Forget what you heard, I saved Mort with this scene. They were gonna kill him.

This was kind of a stroke of luck, just a lot of brainstorming with the other writers, and one day I stumbled upon this Gift of the Magi type moment that wraps up the Mort/Martle saga pretty darn perfectly.

I read in an older Kickstarter AMA that David Peck is responsible for writing most of the pop culture one-liners and “corny” jokes. Please thank him for endlessly entertaining us!

Praise & Reviews
David Peck is not a real person, he's the voice of the bird? Pathea is clearly just messing with us by crediting the voice to someone named "Peck." Get it? Peck? It's something birds do.

Sure, the title of this game sounds like a book Ellen Degeneres might write if her marriage broke down, but don’t let that discourage you, it’s a great game.
This game tore my heart and tore it mercilessly in two with its story.
